Windows Live Writer 2008 - Windows Server 2003

I've been using WLW in Beta for a while now and have loved it. I saw that it recently moved out of Beta and was keen to upgrade. If you download the installer from here, like I did you may have found that it complained about not being supported on Win2K3 - bummer I thought.

A little digging around and I found that if you can access the MSI directly it will install OK. So to save you some time here's s link to a page with links to the MSI.

Thanks for the info and link! I've been using the beta on a 2003 Terminal Server with great success, and when trying to upgrade today I couldn't!

If you want to download the latest version, not BETA, go to the microsoft website:

http://download.live.com/writer

and download the web installer. After you do so, go to your browser download log and copy URL this downloaded file and then copy it to the browser adress bar.

Next thing you've got to do is rename file name in this URL from "wlsetup-web.exe" to "wlsetup-all.exe" and hit enter.

I tried downloading the MSI as in the page you link to, but nothing happened when I double-clicked the MSI file.

I then tried the file that ac mentioned, but that gave me an error saying it could only be installed on Vista or XP.

I'm using Windows Server 2003, SP2. Any ideas how I get to install WLW?

Quick update, double-clicking the MSI file DID work, but very quickly and silently. I had a progress bar that appeared for a few seconds, then nothing. I assumed it hadn't worked, but when I checked the Programs menu, there it was.
